Ratanang

The Ratanang Day Care Centre is a project of the Lesedi la Batho NGO in Pretoria, South Africa.

Located in Mabopane, a township outside Pretoria, it provides high-quality early childhood development and care for the children of young (teenager) mothers. This support enables the mothers to continue their education or seek employment to support their families—an essential step in breaking the cycle of poverty.

The professionally trained, experienced, and dedicated educators nurture the children with love and care, creating optimal conditions for their development. The center cares for children aged six months to six years and provides them with three healthy and balanced meals every day.

I had the privilege of working at the Ratanang Day Care Centre for three years and witnessed firsthand how we literally outgrew our space. We expanded from 12 children attending the Day Care daily to over 70. Moving into an abandoned school building was both a blessing and a significant challenge.

The passion, teamwork, and generosity of many left a lasting impression—not just on me, but also on the children of Ratanang Day Care.
